Minibus, bus or taxi to the border at Aranya Pratet / Poi Pet (4 hours from Bangkok or Pattaya).
After a long period of construction the road from the border to Siem Reap is now in good order, and the journey can be made in less than 3 hours.
From the border to Siem Reap 3 hours by taxi (US$ 25-40). For two or three people travelling together this may be the best option.
Buses at the border are cheap, but may be of rather poor quality.
Some travel agencies in Bangkok and Pattaya offer a seat in a minibus to Siem Reap at about Bht. 1600, primarily an option for young people.
